An Overview of Lotto Max & Extra Rules and Mechanics

What is Lotto Max & Extra?

Lotto Max & Extra, often referred to as simply “Lotto Max,” is a Canadian national lottery game that allows players to participate in two separate draws: the main draw and an additional $1 million-maximizing option. The game offers massive jackpots, making it one of Canada’s most popular lotteries.

The Main Draw

In the main Lotto Max draw, 10 numbers are randomly selected from a pool of 50 possible options (numbers ranging from 1 to 50). To play the lottomaxandextra.ca main draw, players choose 7 numbers from this range. A ticket costs $5 and allows the player to participate in the draw for that particular set of numbers.

The Extra Draw

Lotto Max also features an optional extra draw, referred to as “Extra.” For an additional $3, players can choose a third set of numbers (from 1 to 7) from the same pool. The main purpose of this feature is to give players another chance at winning and increasing their potential earnings.

How the Concept Works

In both draws, six winning sets are generated through a random number generator system. When matching numbers appear on a player’s ticket in either draw or both, they can win prizes ranging from $5 for matching two numbers (minimum requirement) to the top prize of up to $60 million. If no single winner claims the jackpot within 30 days after a drawing date, it rolls over and increases with each subsequent draw.

Jackpot Odds & Chances

With so many possible combinations in both draws, odds are always against individual players winning the Jackpot or even higher-tiered prizes. For every $1 spent on the main Lotto Max draw, there’s approximately 1:28 million chance of winning the top prize. Players have better chances with smaller prize categories but may still not win.

Key Factors in Lotto Max & Extra

  • The main and extra draws offer a combined cost for players ($5 + $3 = $8 per ticket).
  • Tickets remain valid even if no draw matches occur.
  • Some participants, known as syndicates, split the cost and potential earnings among group members.

Variations of Lotto Max & Extra

Over the years, Ontario has introduced various versions such as a ‘Free Play’ option. Players with specific winning tickets receive an additional free ticket allowing them to participate in subsequent draws without paying another entry fee again for participating in that next draw at all.

Advantages and Limitations

  • Potential lifetime-changing winnings from large jackpots.
  • Participation cost (entry fees per participant) is relatively low compared other lotteries or drawing contests offered elsewhere online worldwide.
